Course Description
The purpose of this class is to learn about common geographic methods of measuring environmental parameters and gathering and analyzing field data. Obviously no class can be all things to all students, but I am confident that everyone will learn something worthwhile and have fun doing it. We all come to this class with varying levels of field experience, and everyone is encouraged to bring your talent and experience to the endeavor. The most important elements of this class are participation and professionalism.
Course Operation
The basic assignments for this class are 1) to keep a Field Journal with notes, drawings, photographs and perhaps other items, which convey in as much detail as practical the field methods exercises we undertake in class as well as the overall class experience.
2) to conduct an individual or group (preferred) project that utilizes one or more relevant field methods, and that provides a dataset (perhaps a map or database) useful to the campus community. We will discuss examples of potential projects in class.
